What can be used to clean wiper blades?

When you drive in wet weather or dusty conditions, it seems like your car window blades always leave streaks unless they're brand new. No matter how many times you spray your washer fluid, the automotive wiper blades leave little lines of water or big swaths of uncleared spots on your windshield glass. Do they need to be replaced again? Shouldn’t they last at least six months to a year?

The effective operation of your wiper blade parts comes down to their ability to apply even pressure on the windshield glass. You need a clean windshield and clean car windshield wipers in order to clear everything away from obstructing your view of the road.

Cleaning your auto windshield wipers is a straight forward procedure that only takes a couple minutes. You need:

A few clean rags or paper towels

Washer fluid or hot soapy water

Rubbing alcohol

Before you clean your window wipers make sure your car is clean. Either wash it yourself or take it through the car wash as the purpose is to remove as much general dirt and grime as possible.

  1. Lift your automobile wiper from the windshield glass.

  2. Apply a small amount of washer fluid to one of your clean rags and wipe the edge of your wiper blade. You can also use hot, soapy water to wipe down the edge of the blade. Make several passes over the wiper blade with the rag until no more dirt comes off the rubber edge of the blade.

  3. Wipe the hinged areas of the wiper blade as well to ensure smooth, fluid movement.

  4. Wipe the edge of the clean wiper blade with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. This will remove any soapy film or residue that is left on the rubber.
